FRAME RELAY
Frame Relay is a High Speed Data Service that supports multiple speed
transmissions over a packet-switched network. Frame Relay also provides the
efficiency of multiplexing, a guaranteed speed, and a low cost,
mileage-insensitive way of transmitting data over large geographical areas.
TelcoQuote works with providers worldwide - if your needs are local or
worldwide, we have a solution for you!
Unlike a dedicated connection, which requires a dedicated circuit to be run
between each location, a frame relay connection requires only one access
port into the system for each location. There is no physical dedicated
circuit between the two sites, but a PVC or Permanent Virtual Circuit
through the Frame Relay network.
There are actually two parts to any Frame Relay connection:
1.Circuit
2.Frame Relay Port
The circuit is the physical line between a customer facility and their local
Telco central office. Circuit speeds range from 56Kbps to 45 Mbps.
The Frame Relay Port is located within the Telco network and is responsible
for directing traffic flow to the designated location. Port speeds vary
depending on the circuit utilized. Frame Relay technology allows data to be
transmitted in variable length frames over permanent virtual circuits.
Multiple, permanent, virtual circuits can be provisioned over a single
physical access connection.
Frame Relay will generally be more cost-effective than private lines for
networks with three or more locations within a Telco service area or in
situations where mileage, especially cross-country mileage, is a significant factor in monthly costs. Frame
Relay is a fast packet-switching technology that provides the benefits of
private lines and shared network products.
